How we collect and use information:
We will only collect information relevant and necessary to our relationship with you. The information we collect may include contact details, personal details, financial information to allow us to process transactions and claims, relevant medical information from your vet regarding your pet that is pertinent to the services we provide to you, and information about your use of our services.
Guide Dogs Queensland may disclose information about you and your pet (including but not limited to identification information, payment history and your pet’s medical history) to our affiliates or our underwriter in order to provide you with our Pet Insurance product. By taking out a policy with Guide Dogs Pet Insurance, you agree to us sharing your information with our affiliates and underwriter. Our affiliates and our underwriter are bound by privacy policies similar to ours to protect your information.
We treat personal information which we collect from individuals in the same way we treat our other confidential information. We will not sell to the information we collect to any other party.
Customer information will not be released to any third party not affiliated with us without the express consent of you personally.
We do not collect any information about racial or ethnic origin, political opinions or membership, religious or philosophical beliefs, trade association or union membership, sexual preferences or criminal record, unless:
- the individual has consented, (e.g. Police background checks on potential volunteers and staff who will be working with clients and/or children, or details required to provide effective service to clients); or
- the collection is required by law; or
- the collection is necessary to prevent a serious and imminent threat to the health and safety of a person; or
- the collection is necessary for the establishment, exercise or defense of a legal claim.
Personal Information, including your pet’s medical history, will be used for purposes including but not limited to the following:
- Administering your policy.
- Processing your claims.
- Managing our ongoing relationship with you.
- Providing you with information about products, service and/or special offers.
- Obtaining opinions or comments about products and/or services.
- Recording statistical data for marketing analysis.
- Resolving complaints or issues.
- Performing any other business function required.
GDPI has procedures in place to limit access to your personal information to only those employees with a business reason for knowing such information.
If we collect sensitive information (as defined under legislation), we will tell you and treat it with the utmost security and confidentiality.
All GDPI staff are obliged to respect the confidentiality of any personal information held by the association.
Your right to access and correct information we hold about you
If you ask us, we will tell you what information we hold about you, unless there are important public interest reasons not to, which are detailed in the Freedom of Information Act 1991 or other relevant information.
This may happen if –
- we cannot tell you without breaching someone else’s privacy;
- we cannot tell you without endangering an investigation or legal action; or
- there are other important issues.
This service is free unless the information you request requires significant research or preparation time. Before we act upon requests of this nature, we will tell you how much this service will cost.
We will take all reasonable steps to ensure that your personal information which we collect, use or disclose is accurate, complete and up to date.
If the information we hold is not accurate, complete and up to date, you can ask us to modify our records.
Opt Out Option
When you get a quote or buy insurance through this Site, we collect your email so that we can send you information concerning your policy or other information you may find useful. We will only contact you if you elect to be contacted.
Individuals have the right to “opt out” of receiving information, marketing information and appeals. We assume the right to continue conducting our marketing campaigns using collected information unless directed by you. In this instance you need to advise us to remove, bar, and/or adjust the records.
If you no longer wish to receive emails from us, you will only be contacted by Guide Dogs Queensland via email in reply to any online inquiry you send us.
When you get a quote or buy insurance through this site, you may elect to have us pass your details on to the Guide Dog School in your state so that they can contact you from time to time with a range of fundraising activities including but not limited to:
- Retail Outlets
- Direct Mail
- Special Events
- Bequests / Planned Giving
- Catalogue sales of merchandise
- Corporate Support , and
- Capital Campaigns
Should you wish to opt out of receiving information from your state’s Guide Dogs School, you must contact them directly.
